Cafe au Lait Dahlia

In the process of cleaning up and putting away the dahlia boxes this weekend I discovered a little pile of leftover Cafe au Lait tubers that needs a good home. How about we do one more quick giveaway? Since I’m heading to the post office first thing in the morning, names are being drawn at 5:00 this evening, and winners announced shortly after. There are 4 chances to win a packages of 3 fat little tubers.

***THE LUCKY WINNERS ARE***

Ferriss Donham, “I love YOU! You are so so so so giving, generous and I am totally sucking up!!!”

William, “I would love to be able to plant these dahlias at the community garden I’m a member of in Brooklyn. I know they would look fantastic and contribute to turning our urban space into a floral sanctuary. The garden is open to the public so they would get plenty of attention and appreciation.”

Terri Todd, “I’m following in your footsteps in every way building my flower farm. I would love to add a little piece of your farm to mine!”

Maribeth Singleton, “Ohh how I would love to win & be able to grow these pretty flowers!!! They are breathtaking!! Fingers & toes crossed :)”

In the quiet recesses of my dreaming mind, I’m formulating, creating, planning my very own flower farm. I keep all my ideas in a journal and pictures on my computer. Although I must still punch the time clock, persistent effort to save for my land is inching me towards a dream fulfilled. All that is required from me at this point is my least strong quality…patience. Yet, as I was on my knees digging 90 varieties of heirloom irises on a nearby farm, I could almost feel the earth beneath me as my own. Thank you, Erin, for your inspiration and generosity.

I first experimented with growing them three years ago for my wedding and have continued to grow them every year for friends weddings. This past winter I lost all my tubers… I guess they dried up. Gardening is a constant learning process! Thank you for all the information and resources you provide!

Hi Erin! I would LOVE a chance to plant some of your Cafe au lait dahlias in my garden! I have been reclaiming some farmland that was previously conventionally farmed with the help of my 15 chickens! Dahlias bring so much color and beauty to the garden! You inspire me to keep my flower farm dream alive! I hope to get to one of your workshops one day:)

I flew out to Seattle from Virginia to arrange flowers for my best friends wedding last august. She was the easiest bride with only one request to have some Cafe Au Laits in the mix. Of course they were no where to be found, all bought out months and months ahead of time. But with a last minute call and crazy amounts of luck, Floret came through for us! Every time I see a Cafe I think of Seattle, my best friend and her beautiful wedding! Thank you Erin for giving us such a wonderful memory!

Oh I love dahlias! My grandmother has them in her yard (out of state) and last year I was visiting her the week before my brother’s wedding and saw the blooms nearing the end of the season. I thought how nice it would be if we could have used them for the wedding. The next week on a whim, I emailed my grandmother asking if there were any blooms left. She didn’t respond and I forgot to follow up so we proceeded with the floral arrangement and bouquets. Wedding weekend came and Nana showed up with the biggest, most beautiful single dahlia bloom that perfectly fit the top of the wedding cake. It was perfect and gorgeous and from there a love affair with dahlias was born!
