wreathrecipeWell, the ladies at Studio Choo have done it yet again!  Alethea Harampolis and Jill Rizzo’s most recent book, The Wreath Recipe Book, is every bit as drool-worthy as their first volume: The Flower Recipe Book which was published in 2013.  I absolutely adore the gorgeous photos and recipe format and especially love the special attention they give in both volumes to using seasonal floral material.

I sat down to chat with these ladies a few months back as part of the Farmer and the {Florist} interview series.  Today I’m happy to give away one copy of their Wreath Recipe Book to one lucky blog reader.  To enter, simply add a comment below.     Wonderful giveaway! I have already borrowed this one from the library and had to renew it twice. Owning it would be much more efficient. Non-food “cookbooks” are such an exciting concept. As for food tomes, I am enamored of Nigel Slater’s “Tender,” an ode to garden as much as plate, Madhur Jaffrey’s “World Vegetarian,” and am looking forward to adventuring through Becky Selengut’s “Shroom.”

    My most used cookbooks over the years are the ‘Better Homes & Garden Cookbook’ for instructions and recipes for cooking and baking and the VictoryGarden Cookbook by Marion Morash. The Victory Garden cookbook has a wealth of information for growing, harvesting and tons of recipes for cooking fresh vegetables. I would love to add the wreath recipe book to my collection!

    My mother-in-law gave me The Joy of Cooking two years ago when I stated cooking meat again, and now I must admit it is my cooking bible…I open it often for biscuits, waffles, and roasts! I also reference Sally Fallon’s Nourishing Traditions quite often in the kitchen.

    Oh my…favorite recipe cookbook(s)..so many but starting off with Julia Child; Baking, James Beard’s: Seafood, Ina Garten’s: Back to Basics and a host of ethnic cuisine ones.

    The other one that I could not have started our operation without “Holy $hit”…managing manure.

    I so love reading all the other favorites…thanks for more great ideas to research.

    This is not a recipe in the traditional since, but my favorite floral recipe is driving around in the country and alleys around my hometown. Blaring music my husband doesn’t like to listen to and pulling flowers, vines, and even dare I say it “weeds”. Bringing them home in the front seat of my car to create something special for my dinner table on a Thursday!

    I would love to have this book.I’d pick The Joy of Cooking because in it are treasures I cherish – my grandma’s recipes on scraps of paper written in her own longhand – cocoa applesauce cupcakes, pickles, potato pancakes, cherrry pie…..recipes from the time of Victory Gardens, that have been tucked away since the 1940’s.

    Watching Floret grow is helping me to act on my flower dreams too! Thanks for sharing.

    Sunset’s Favorite recipe books are the ones I keep going back to for recipes with fresh seasonal food. Granted they have a California flair which speaks to my roots. Ann Lovejoy’s Fresh from the Garden Cookbook: Recipes Inspired by Kitchen Gardens is also an inspiration for local Washington gardeners.

    This looks yummy. Every year I hope to capture some of our post-season goodness in wreaths but somehow fall short. In the world of recipes and recipe books, I’m a fan of the educative bent of all things Cooks Illustrasted, which are perhaps akin to Floret’s approach to your blog and floral writings in their sharing of plenty of tips and other tasty morsels of knowledge to create not just one dish/bouquet/crop but rather to inform one’s approach to cooking/growing more broadly. Keep up the great work and thanks for so much inspiration. And beauty!

    I would love to know more about wreath-making! I love having fresh flowers in my home, but the thought of a beautiful wreath greeting me when I come in the door is cheering me up quite a bit, on this rainy spring day in Indiana. One of my all-time favorite books is Vegetable Literacy by Deborah Madison. It is invaluable during Farmer’s Market season, when I can grab some new and delicious veggies from the market and then create a delicious meal from her book.

    My never-fail-go-to cookbook is the Cooks Illustrated cookbook, hands down! This wreath recipe book looks beautiful! I grow loads of dried flowers, intending to weave them into my late season wreaths, but I somehow never get to it by the time the season winds down…perhaps this book is the inspiration I need.

    My favorite recipe book is a complication of gardening (flowers, fruits and veggies) and recipes from my grandma. We copied her recipes to retain her beautiful handwriting and bound the book together with photos of some of her pressed flowers. It’s not in anyone’s best seller list but mine, but it is the most special recipe book I’ve ever come across. Many of the recipes are also written in French, which makes them a bit more magical!

    Your arrangements are gorgeous! I would love to give your book as a gift to my daughter who fell in love with the art of flower arranging in preparing for her wedding at the Dallas Arboretum :) As a former tech writer I appreciate a concise set of instructions that could explain quantum physics in 10 steps or less.

    Currently my favorite is Huckleberry from Zoe Nathan. I love the humor of the book and everything I’ve made from it is delicious and the pictures are gorgeous. My favorite part though, is before each recipe there’s a short paragraph about different variations on the recipe for different seasons or something she likes about this particular recipe.

    The first book I had as a teenager was “Cookies” by Williams-Sonoma. Now that I am 29 years old, it still figures as my favorite. I have baked so many cookies, that I became an expert with the most delicious desserts. My own invention: Chai cookies.

    I got the Flower Recipe book this past Christmas and loved it. I very much enjoyed seeing the wide range of colors and flowers they used in the book as well as the photographs. Another recipe book I love is “Lomelino’s Cakes: 27 Pretty Cakes to Make Any Day Special” full of yummy cakes and photos.

    I’ve always loved the Moosewood Cookbook. My mother made meals based on recipes from this book all throughout my childhood and I continue to use it today in my kitchen.

    My new favorite cookbook that is currently getting much use in our kitchen is – Cooking School by Deanna Cook. It’s geared towards children, so I love that they are learning the skill with so much enthusiasm.     My favorite recipe book is The Joy of Cooking. My mom gave it to me back in 1986 when I graduated from college. She wrote in it and dated it and when ever I use it I think of her and what an amazing cook she was. Can’t wait to pass on the same book to my daughter in a year when she graduates.

    I love love love Edible Flowers: A Kitchen Conpanion by Kitty Morse…My sister is a baker and I’m an aspiring growing so to combine both of our passions allows for so much room to play!! I don’t think I could ever get enough flowers–adding surprising petals to the baked goods brings many pleasantly surprised people at the farmers markets!!! Having said that any farm to table cookbook wins priority in my kitchen!! So so so happy the season has begun!!!!

    My favorite recipe book is One Pan, Two Plates by Carla Snyder. Easy and delicious dinners that require very little cleanup! But the recipe book I look at the most is definitely the Flower Recipe Book…it makes the best bedtime reading :)

    My favorite recipe book is called, I Love to Eat Jewish. It’s so well organized and the recipes are so simple but sooo delicious! There are even a few pages dedicated to special terms and phrases, to really put all the effort and love into cooking. Would love to see how the Wreath Recipe Book would add color to my collection. OYE!

    I really love the Cooks Illustrated books. They aren’t beautiful, but they have great instructions for so many types of recipes. I have an embarrassingly large cookbook collection, but those are the ones I seem to pull out the most.

    I have The Flower Recipe book and love just looking through it. I wasn’t aware The Wreath Recipe book existed, so I’m really happy I saw this post.

    My favorite cookbook is actually an old local junior service league cookbook that my mom bought years ago! It has some family favorites in it! I would love to get this beautiful book, so I could give it to my mom! She loves arranging flowers, and I know she would love to have The Wreath Recipe for inspiration! Thanks!

    Wreaths area actually something I’m going to be exploring this summer in my free time—I’m incredibly taken with large floral wreaths and want to learn how to do them, like whoa. I don’t have a floral recipe book per se, but my favorite recipe book is The Science of Good Cooking (Cook’s Illustrated Cookbooks). I loved learning the science behind cooking because once you understand it, it enables to you go forth and become the best dinner party hostess you can be.

    The first book I had as a teenager was “Cookies” by Williams-Sonoma. Now that I am 29 years old, it still figures as my favorite. I have baked so many cookies, that I became an expert with the most delicious desserts. My own invention: Chai cookies.
    I am a big fan of flowers and foliage, and devoted florist. Can’t wait to have this book!

    Ah! I checked this out from the library the minute the forsythia came out! Haha. It’s so beautiful (and super easy to follow).

    I am partial to Nigella Lawson’s cookbooks, even though I’m a vegetarian. The photos are beautiful and her wiring is so evocative. Plus the desserts (How to Be A Domestic Goddess) are so decadent. Ugh. So good.

    My 2 favorite recipe books are Marcella Hazan; the classic Italian cookbook and Irene Kuo; the key to chinese cooking. Both emphasize the importance of quality ingredients, traditional methods and clarity of flavors. I feel like the studio choo books do the same just with flowers instead of food!

    Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. I love that this cookbook has been used for many generations and includes a lot of really basic recipes. I am not one to follow a recipe, but this gives a good outline and from there i can be creative usually depending on what i have on hand. Sort of like flowers.. using what you have available.

      Oh! My favourite recipe book is ‘Bread & Wine’ by Shauna Niequist. The book not only provides a series of delicious recipes but also provides the reader with motivation to make life around the table so important.

      One of my favorite recipe books is the “Flower recipe” one! But I’m also partial to my family’s handmedown “caughman cookbook” that holds generations of family stories and food recipes!
