#GrowFloret Giveaway

Written by
Floret

Oh man–scrolling through all of the photos on Instagram that show so many people sowing their first seeds of the season (and in a few cases it was for the first time in their lives!) makes me so unbelievably happy. What fun to see all the beauty that fellow flower lovers are planting, growing, and creating all over the globe.

I especially love all the beautiful styled vignettes featuring Floret seed packets along with vintage-inspired valentines, plants, pets, little people and more (see them here and here).

To keep the momentum going as we move into the heart of “seed starting season,” I want to kick off a new #GrowFloret giveaway.

Here is how to enter to win a goody bag full of Floret seeds and swag:

Share a photo of your seed packets, seed starts or baby plants on Instagram and tag it with #GrowFloret and/or #FloretSeeds.

Haven’t purchased any of our seeds? No problem! You can enter by simply leaving a comment here on the blog. In your comment, tell us what flowers you’re most excited to grow this season.

UPDATE:  Congratulations to our March winners:  Tina, Alison, Syd, Stephanie and Lucy, and lcriman.

Thanks for playing along!

Note: We must manually approve comments and filter out spam, so if  your comment doesn’t appear right away, don’t fret. We’ll approve it shortly.

We have snow this morning, but I have nine packets of Floret seeds, and cannot wait to start them indoors. I am going to buy seed starter today! Yay! So, today kicks off my growing season. Yay again. I love your posts. When it warms up some I will put everything outdoors on my patio table; then in my pots. Alas, I am forced to be a container gardener.

I am all butterflies with anticipation to see how the orchard on the land fairs this springtime- I can’t wait to breath in the apple blossoms. Warm days are approaching here in Colorado. Last year, I planted over 450 dahlia, lily and gladiolus bulbs in the backyard along with peony and rose bushes and this year will be upping the game and adding ranunculus (tips for growing in labile, CO spring weather appreciated), calla lillies, more dahlias. and a variety of fillers – many of which I will be purchasing from seed here. I love making bouquets for friends and family and look forward to the possibility of flower catering some small parties this summer! Just bought your book!

I tear up every time I walk outside and see all they ways you have changed my garden and my world, inside and out. I watch your online courses, reread my notes and make checklists everyday to accomplish all in my botanical space. Every dream that slides out of a seed packet into the soil starts it’s precious beautiful journey that I get to watch, fret, experiment and work hard for the “aha” moment that I know you sincerely what us all to have. 8000 babies are started in our greenhouse and your techniques including the Johnny’s seeder have made so much possible. I can with a little help get round two of another 5000 going easily this week even in the snow. I did buy a lot seed packets to support you because I believe in you and your wonderful team as game changers of the world. But I also bought a lot so that I could give away, and enjoy the losses with a smile as all the things that go wrong can be easily endured. I am a child of the earth born on the prairies where at dusk while making my last mud pie of the day you hear the thunder, race around putting away the yard and then you huddle together in fear and listen to the hail flatten everything and punch a hole in the picture window. As the storm would subside I remember now I have seen my father with a bent head between his elbows at the kitchen table and then later hearing my parents whisper. We four children in about 1962 all whispered after the storm. Then in the morning I would awake to sun, birds singing, the smell of a special breakfast and only now as I write this realizing my parents had been up at dawn starting a new chapter. As I walk outside to the best smell on earth (sorry only available on dusty prairies after a hail and rain storm) and see my parents have already been tidying up the yard, planting again, canning the tomatoes, freezing the garden to get ready for a lean year and the hope of a new year in the field. I don’t have any friends except my husband who are like me so being with all of you and reading all the Instagram posts is a very personal special part of my life because their lives are who I really am. This is why I love you, all of you and your seeds because at 62 I can be who I am and because of you it’s now cool and maybe not so crazy to really feel what the earth can do under your feet.! xo

This year, the ‘ firepit’ Is gone and in its place a newly cultivated 12’ x 25’ cutting bed, just waiting to be planted in a couple of weeks. Like your story, my love of flowers began as a young child with memories of sweetpeas growing in my grandmother’s Mississippi garden. That love for flowers (and sweetpeas in particular) extended naturally to my mother, and then on to me. I’ve never quite escaped it. Flowers are my go-to…sourced from my garden 3 season a year, and sourced from my flower budget during winter :). I married a man who designs landscapes for a living, and our overflowing vegetable garden & rose cutting garden are going to be extended this year with some rows of nostalgic sweetpeas thanks to this wonderful website & company.

This is my first year offering a Cut Flower CSA, and I am every bit of excited and scared out of my mind. I purchased 3 different varieties of your Dahlia’s, and I am fascinated and can’t hardly wait to plant them. I also bought about 30 other varieties from Floret, however without Instagram, I am unable to post pictures. I am also intrigued with the Belles of Ireland and I am looking forward to planting those as well. I will begin sowing some of these beauties next week and I have written out my CSA weekly bouquet plan and then of course changed it a million different times. I have read your book and I am very inspired. You are the reason I have a Cut Flower CSA and I am excited to journey down this road. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, experiences, and trials.

Hello! I would LOVE to win your seeds. I just took a two-day flower farming workshop at the U of Wisconsin, Madison and am excited to start a serious cutting garden with 2 42″x15′ beds with support nets. I bought your book and am following your suggestions. Thank you! Flowers I now know I want to start from seed (first time I’m doing this!) include sweet peas, cosmos, zinnias, lisianthus, bells of Ireland, larkspur, poppies, globe amaranth, sunflower …and more! I need to make a long list and then shorten it! Thanks for all of your help – works in Minneapolis on the 45th parallel too!

My eyes are wide with excitement to choose a few flowers I would hope to plant this spring. But then trying to narrow it down to a few, I find myself feeling like Drew Barrymore in the movie Ever After where her love of books overwhelms her as she tries to only select one… “I could no sooner choose a star in the heavens!” Each one is so unique and delightful on their own… I’m not sure which ones to pick as this is all still so new! I appreciate the delicacy of poppies and the brilliant colors and shape of the dahlia! The peonies are always a favorite as they open and frangence the air so close to my birthday up here in Wisconsin. I’m learning foliage is so important as it enhances the whole bouquet. These might be a few of my favorite things…

I have planted numerous flowers over the years, but I am learning the better way to prepare the beds so I hope to have a spectacular show this year. I love all kinds of flowers and plants. Flowers is one of my most deepest passions. I learned a lot through studying books and hands on the last 25 years. This year I enrolled in a Master Gardening class to further my knowledge and be able to share what I know with others. I am super excited that I have found others that share my love for all flowers. I’m so excited, my Floret sweet pea seeds arrived in McLaren Vale, Australia today. In Oz our grandparents taught us to plant sweet peas on the 17th of March which is St Patrick’s day. For me it is smack bang in the middle of vintage when I am flat out harvesting grapes and making wine. So that I remember I have propped the stunning card that came with the seeds next to my computer screen. Whilst I wait for the harvester in the middle of the night I am going to plan my winter seed planting and order so that the seeds arrive at the end of vintage, when I have a little quite time. Happy growing everyone.

My friend mentioned your book to her family, and they gave her a copy for Christmas. Talk about spreading beauty, joy, and love all around! We love to look at the photos since your book is really about growing flowers in Washington state and we both live on the border of WA/BC. I have been selling flowers from my driveway, and people stop by delighted to pick up beautiful arrangements. I can’t even remember exactly how I ran across your website, but it’s so beautiful and what fun your family must be having! It has encouraged me to add flower seeds to our vegetable garden this year. I wish I could have acres in beautiful Mother of Pearl Poppies, Hollyhocks, Pink Señorita Zinnias and some Cosmos Velouette but will have to settle for a little flower bed this year. All the Dahlias are just gorgeous. I would love to do what you are doing!

This was supposed to be my first year growing and selling cut flowers and was planning on growing around 3,000 sq ft of flowers. However, my husband and I now have our first baby due in June so the full effect of that dream will have to wait until next year. I am still going to grow and experiment with a few varieties and am most excited about sweet peas. They grow wild in western Oregon where I used to go blackberry picking with my grandma. Excited about growing some with stems long enough to actually fit in a vase.

This is my first year starting from seeds and I am terrified. I created a sowing chart, which gives me dates for when to plant. Roughly 6 different flower seeds are in their happy little trays now, but many have been slow to pop out of the dirt. Is this normal!? I have a seed mat and a grow light. The grow light I just turned on last night, so hopefully that will help. It’s so nerve-racking waiting for those little seedlings to pop up!

This is the first year of actually planting my new garden, purchased 3 summers ago. The prep work is finally done! This will be the first garden since I was a child where I can grow sweet peas. When my great-grandmother became widowed I spent as much time with her as I could to keep her company. One day when we were sitting in her garden sharing tea and cookies in her treasured china tea cups, she handed me the cup with sweet peas on it and told me that sweet peas always made her think of me because when I was very tiny I had brought her a bouquet of them. I hadn’t remembered taking them to her until she reminded me of it, but suddenly I remembered the long strings of lusciously scented, multi-colored flowers planted all along our back fence and, later, clutching the big bunch of flowers on the way to Great Grandma’s house. So of all the lovely, exciting things I plan to put into my garden this year the sweet peas are probably the most thrilling.

We spent last summer cleaning up the yard. Now, I’m dreaming of flowing garden beds filled with bee, bird & butterfly friendly flowers, a veggie/herb garden, and a cutting garden next to the (she)d. Everything! We are more than doubling the size of our garden this year because our 8 year old really wants to grow LOTS of flowers and vegetables that he can give away to people in need. He is always thinking about others and how he can help them and the environment. At first I thought it was just phase but it keeps getting stronger with each passing year so maybe this will be his life’s calling?!? Now I just have to find enough mommy time to be supportive and not squash his dreams…

Sweet Peas. I didn’t have a appropriate trellis for it last year and it didn’t get to follow except 2 blooms, but they smelled heavenly. Didn’t want to give up, so I purchased a tall support for it for this year and just noticed my first sprouts yesterday.

Trying to get into having more flowers, but they are pretty intimidating. Right now I grow mainly Zinnias for butterfly attraction. Others I have popping up right now are daffodils, Iris, and I can’t wait to see the first signs of snowbells I planted last year. I want to grow more cut flower type flowers, trying to break free.

Spring is showing here in East Anglia, UK, despite frequent frosts and snowy mornings. Now illness has forced me into giving up work way too soon, I’m eager to use the time with planting as many seeds as my porches and windowsills can hold, especially Foxgloves, Cosmos, and Love-in-a-Mist. Gardening is my inspiration and my joy and I can’t wait to see my garden bloom again this year. Thank you for the inspiration, Floret Flowers!
