Because of Season 1 of Floret, I have never been the same. Your show sparked a love for flowers and a passion to see what I can grow. I am consumed with all things “growing”. My only regret is that I didn’t start sooner.

I’m looking forward to my new gardens, sun and being able to hug my friends again. I lost two fields of dahlias last year due to a poor location choice and soil that was just not up to the requirements of the tubers. I am hoping this year will be special as I spent all fall, winter and spring preparing the new location.

I would love to see the faces of my neighbors in my small condo complex when I tell them they are welcome to help themselves to the flowers in my “cutting troughs” on my patio. They will also enjoy looking out their patio window to see my colorful bloom explosion.

We just moved into a new home in Fuquay-Varina, NC (just outside Raleigh) from Cross Lanes, WV (just outside of Charleston) four weeks ago yesterday. The builder planted some evergreen bushes in the front but there’s nothing in the way of beautiful plants and bushes. It’s a wide open landscape dreamers’ wonderland. I need beautiful flowers so desperately and someone to guide me in making this, our very last home, a true beauty. We are both 73 years old and this will be our forever home. Our last one was filled with beautiful plants (especially hydrangeas) and potted plants. We had 6 beds of raised gardening, all ready for the next family to take over. Whether they do is another thing. I would love to have any plants plus suggestions for their care that you might want to give.
Thank you for the opportunity to be in this.

I would love to grow some of your dahlias to show at the Hamilton County Fair, also at
Harvest Home Show. I know everyone would be “goo-goo” eyed looking at such nice
specimens. I love the fall with all it’s wonderful colors and can’t wait until Fair time to show off my fall flowers. Just discovered your website and it will be a favorite.

I am MOST looking forward to coming to the three-day FLORET Peony WORKSHOP the first weekend in June!!!! I have been looking forward to it all spring and know it will be a highlight of the year!

Also, we just purchased a new house and the yard is nicely landscaped but is in desperate need of some bright flowers for me to be able to cut and arrange! I would LOVE to have the first thing I plant be your BEAUTIFUL DAHLIAS! Ever time I look at them, they will remind me of my FLORET WORKSHOP!

This next season I’m looking forward to using fresh-cut local peonies for my client’s bouquets and table arrangements instead of having them shipped in! And fresh, home-grown dahlia’s would be the perfect compliment to these arrangements…at least to use for next year! Thanks for this opportunity, Erin!

I’m looking forward to an enormous life gardening change!…..We have moved from a big historic home filled with gardens to a condo with tons of pots and a community garden plot. I will share the plot with neighbors from the old neighborhood to stay in touch. Last week we had a tea part in our garden plot, planted calendula, zinnias…harvested small salads, rhubarb and tiny pansy bouquets. We dreamed about our new shared garden and what it will become..

    Three major things:
    1) I am so looking forward to moving back onto our homestead after 2 years away…6 weeks and counting down the days.
Our tenants didn’t take care of the gardens like they said they would, *sigh*. Not buying plants and seeds while away has been torture.

    2) Finishing my Scrambling course with the Everett branch Mountaineers!! Self-care/Fun theme of 2015: Mountain Adventure. Summer backpacking, cascade scrambles, Mt Rainier wildflowers…There are so many beautiful mountains to explore, summits to attain and views that put my petty squabbles to shame.

    3) I am also looking forward to giving two cut-flower talks for Sno-Isle Libraries in June and July!

My husband and I just bought a log cabin home in Williamsburg, Virginia and I’m so excited to have my first vegetable, fruit, and herb garden started. What I’m most looking forward to is starting our beautiful flower garden out front with a trellis and yes dahlia’s would look gorgeous in our garden. My only grandmother just passed away at 97 and I plan on placing bulbs from her flower garden in mine also. This is something I plan to share with my beautiful 12 year old daughter so we can watch beauty grow together year after year and continue family memories.

Honestly, the thing I’m most looking forward to are the dahlias! I was never into them so much until I took a trip to upstate New York with a boyfriend. We stayed in a cabin near a swimming hole and I went to the local farmer’s market and got dahlias. He even wrote a song about me and the dahlias. I’m no longer with the boyfriend, but dahlias have since remained my favorite flower because they truly evoke summer love for me.

You have heard of my struggles and loss over the past two years but I am here to say I am 1 million % ready to get unstuck and start living my dreams, to make my life a masterpiece!

The whisper that lives deep inside of me is exclaiming it is time and sings through every fiber of my being. It’s vibrating in such a way that it can not be ignored.

I can not think of a more perfect, meaningful, dear to my heart way to begin growing my fresh cut flower business then with my very first sowing/planting to be given to me from wonderful you. My mentor, teacher, inspirer.

The yard was concreted over in the 70’s, but before that, he was a dahlia grower. Not for sale, just for the love of it.! I’ve been following you, Debra, and Jennie and love where the SLOW flower movement is heading. I’d love to be a part of that! What better way than starting with Dahlias, and becoming the movements next farmer-florist!!

I’m a large scale event florist in Pittsburgh who is making a big effort to source local and US farms. I’m also currently in search of a lot in an urban area to build a flower farm for local production and educational programs for inner city youth. I couldn’t secure the lot in time this year so I’m starting the farm on my personal city property of an acre. I have 22 dahlia varities so far and have room for a few more. I hoping for these dahlias to grow so I can store them over the winter to divide in the spring next year for a great start in our urban farm lot.

I’m looking forward to helping and sharing more this year . Your Dahlias will help neighbors of mine celebrate their 25th Wedding Anniversary. I want to help them make their special event look lovely by arranging your Dahlias for their celebration with friends. I know your Dahlias will express their love through the language of flowers. What a fitting place to have your beautiful flowers admired and also recognized for the love and care you have put into growing them, than at a celebration of commitment to such a love.

I am starting and trying a bunch of new things this year. I’ll be selling vegetables and flowers at a market this year! My son is working full time with me! I am growing new vegetables and flowers and new varieties of both, and trying out new techniques. Our farm has some new farm members and we are selling more shares than we have for several years. So I guess I am looking forward to the whole shebang, but mostly working with my son and learning, learning, learning!

For years I’ve had dreams of one day being in a place where I can have a giant vegetable garden, chickens and my very own flower farm. Stumbling upon your blog last year only made that desire even stronger. This year I made the decision that I can wait forever for the perfect place or I can simply start where I’m at and do what I can. My vegetable garden has grown from 3 to 20 beds, my baby chicks will arrive Friday and i have spent the last months tilling and composting three 35×35′ flower beds. My seeds have arrived and my 5 and 7 year old boys have been happily helping me every day to prep beds and plant seeds. I’m amazed to see how far I’ve come and so excited to see what comes of this tiny adventure. To see my dreams fulfilled and know that my kids will understand what it means to grow organic food.. Even if I only get a few bouquets of dahlias.. It will all have been worth it to see my kids joy in knowing they helped make them grow. Who knows, maybe someday I’ll have a farm like yours. I just know you have to start somewhere, no matter how small.

After five years, I have discovered I need to limit my gardening to enormous pots with slick sides to discourage the ground squirrels. My daughter just turned two in March so what I’m looking forward to most this season is sharing the farm with her in an authentic way (last year she really was too little). She seeded her first 72 of sunflowers a couple weeks ago. We seeded some tomatoes yesterday. She is loving watering the perennials every morning with her tiny green metal watering can. She is responsible for bottle feeding the 6 day old goats (only dinner- mom and dad do breakfast and lunch) and she just beams- I have never seen her glow like this before- I think it’s pride…anyhow that’s what I’m looking forward to- watching her drive head first into the natural world and farm life!

The support so that I may live my love for flower growing is tremendous and I’m loving every moment. Sales or no sales!

We are putting the gardens in the backyard and my husband built some awesome boxes for flowers and veggies. I have been planting seeds in starter boxes and have them coming up left and right in the sunny kitchen window! At long last its warm enough to get them outside in their new homes. I can hardly wait to see all types of lovely flowers blooming this summer. I enjoy your photos so very much, your flowers are stunning!

I’m looking forward to big lessons and small farming victories (that my friends will likely not relate to), mistakes made, long days, lighter hair, finding a functional hat (I don’t do hats), that first bunch of flowers ever sold (much like the first earned dollar every business used to tape to their walls), plans and dreams realized, finally letting go of “owning” skills and the readiness in my heart to give as freely and openly as you do for the floral community. Our area needs a local Floret and an “Erin” type person to fill the space of love and support without judgment. The florists here all know your name and wish you were closer so even though I look forward to stepping up, it’s scary.
I look forward most to having a little physical proof (when we have rows of flowers, foliage, and food to sell and share) and having that truly touchable commodity that changes the way people “do” flowers when they experience it first hand.
Then in the coming years I can look forward to area sister farmers, group gatherings and sales, resource sharing, and a bigger local passion for slow seasonal flowers. I look forward to one day being a little train station that ties into your larger hub/ established railroad lines of information and support in this growing field all over the world.
PS I look forward to recounting goofs with you sometime in the future; such as this week when I neglected to open a box of Café Au Lait Tubers for two months and found them still in plastic, roots wrapped thrice around the tuber and big green stem pushing up in the corners, demanding life and sunlight and likely 180 degrees from the direction it should be facing.

Oh my. How very kind and generous of you. You are my flower hero! . I’ve followed you through the great, good, worn out, but always inspiring writings since I can remember. I look forward to the ‘growing for market’ newsletter every month and go straight to your article to read it first. I don’t know how many times I’ve leafed thru those articles but the are my go-to lists. You are the ‘Dear Abby’ of the floral world. I started growing dahlia only 3 yrs ago. My stock is meager but with your gracious offerings it would be FANTASTIC! Thanks for everything Erin.

I would really like some Dahlia Tubers. I ordered some after you winter post on them. Cafe au Lait were may favorites, and I also got 2 others in pinks and peaches. But the company I bought them from shipped them too soon (I live in the Sierras of No. Ca) and I still am not sure if we have had our last frost. Anyway, I kept them in their original packaging in a cool dark place. yesterday I took them out to plant them and they were all shriveled up:-( I have never grown dahlias before and really wanted to. I planted them anyway, but am not sure if they will come up. So please pick me :-)
