Weekend Giveaway: Eyes Open E-Course

Written by
Floret

For the last several days, I’ve been racing around getting the farm all gussied up for the kickoff of the Floret workshop season.  Everyone here is filled with nervous excitement. Tomorrow morning bright and early, we’ll be welcoming a small group of folks from across the U.S. and Canada to our Flower Farming Intensive, a three-day workshop where we’ll be sharing some of our very best growing tricks, design techniques and tips for building a flower-based business.  Among the many tips I’ll be sharing, is the emphasis on good photography to document and share the beauty you are growing and designing.

ERINLITTLE_LESLEY-6537A few years ago, Chris and I took the Eyes Open Creative Photography E-Course and it was a real game-changer.  As I’ve shared previously, completing the e-course is what enabled us to hone our photography skills and really take Floret’s blog, website and social media posts to the next level.

Erin Little is the talented photographer and blogger, who created the course.  She has a great eye for capturing everyday life in such beautiful, creative and compelling ways. The approachable style and flexible format of Erin’s e-course made it possible for me to finally understand all of the photography terms that I previously found so intimidating and confusing.  I recommend the course to everyone who attends a Floret on-farm workshop and anyone who is looking to up their game when it comes to taking great photos–whether they are of flowers, family or whatever your subject is on the other side of the lens.

ERINLITTLE-1242

To celebrate the start of the 2016 Floret workshops, I’m giving away free registration to the Eyes Open Creative Photography e-course that starts in May 2nd to FOUR lucky Floret readers.

ENTRIES NOW CLOSED.  Thanks for entering!  Winners:  we’ll be in touch with details on how to get you registered.  Enjoy!

    Good morning Erin,

I’ve been trying to sign up to your workshops with no luck, because everytime I receive your newsletter the upcoming workshop is sold out. I never get an information about it before it is no sold out.

I tried to send an email to [email protected], and it didn’t not work either. I got a message back stating this email does not exist.

Maybe I’m doing something wrong, I don’t know, but could you please point me the right direction?

    Thank you so much.

Oh! I might be too late for this, but I just wanted to say thank you for your generosity… and I would love to take this course! I just started my little flower farm this year and love taking photos but know I have SO much to learn in this realm. My biggest challenge in photography is a lack of confidence, I am really intimidated by all the different settings so I tend to play it safe and not venture into manipulating the camera much. Thanks again!

    Hi Erin!
I have been an invisible follower of yours for the last two years – your breathtaking photos and insightful blog articles have inspired me deeply. I wanted you to know how much I appreciate the work that you do! I’m starting a cut flower and herb operation this year in NYC and among the many things I am nervous about in starting a new farm business, one of the things I am most nervous about is presenting good photography! It’s the first time I would be sharing my work publicly in this way, and that’s tough for introverts. I want to be able to share the beauty, emotion, and wonder that the farm and flowers fill my heart with my community and customers (the community I still need to find and support!). My greatest challenge is translating the depth and awe that I feel and see in that moment. Understanding how to get the lighting and angles right with the second eye that is my camera. It’s also made extra hard because the shooting is impromptu and speedy between harvesting and arranging. This course would be a godsend at a time when I am really strapped for resources and time. I know participating would break open up my ability to share what I do with others well and hopefully inspire and bring joy to them, the way you have for me! Have the love and passion I have for my work create a space where others can share in it too.

Thank you for this wonderful and generous opportunity and all that you do. Keeping my fingers crossed! :)

:) Some of these responses crack me up. Glad to know I’m not the only one struggling. One of the biggest challenges to doing/starting this business alone is not having the knowledge base of all the things I need to do. I just bought a camera, because my pathetic phone camera wasn’t doing my arrangements justice. Now that I have a decent camera, it would be helpful to know how to do things and capture the arrangements /farmers/ growers in the best light possible. Winning the e-course would help me tremendously. This would help me finish my website too!

My greatest challenge in photography is in capturing moving objects. I love capturing textures of plants and rusty farm equipment…and I do well at that. It’s the humans that give me trouble ;)

Thanks for sharing what you used to learn how to take amazing pictures! My biggest challenge is definitely try to get what’s in my head to come out in the picture!

I think my biggest challenge when it comes to photography (especially photographing flowers) is capturing light in a way that illuminates the beauty to it’s fullest potential.

Oh, to win this contest….my whole family would thank you! ;)
MY biggest challenge is that I REALLY want to get good pictures, so I take 150 pictures to try to get one great one & take up loads of computer memory because I don’t want to delete them.
I’d love to start taking one great picture instead of a bunch of junky ones!

I giggled when I saw this response. I can sympathize. :) Good luck!

This class would be so great! My biggest challenge when it comes to photography is shooting in low light situations.
