#AYearInFlowers Week 24

We’ve been in England for almost a week now and it has been such a beautiful blur that I’m only now finally catching my breath. We’ve visited the most amazing growers and gardens, taken thousands of photos, recorded hours of interviews and filled a good portion of my notebook with pages of pure gold. The most notable thing so far has been the generosity and hospitality of the amazing growers we’ve visited and the deep commitment to preservation and sustainability across this beautiful country.

For this week’s #AYearInFlowers post, I’m sharing this quick shot from the trip:

How to participate in #AYearInFlowers

1) Capture. 

Take a photo of flowers that are in season in your area, whether it is a fistful of flowers from your backyard or a bouquet from your local farmers market.

2) Post. 

On Instagram, upload your photo and tag it with #AYearInFlowers;

On Facebook, upload your photo as a comment under my weekly post.

3) Share. 

In your photo caption, please share what flowers are featured (if you know them) along with your location and date. Bonus points for listing your USDA hardiness zone and week number (i.e. #week24flowers)

I’m having so much fun with the #ayearinflowers project! It gives me a reason to design something every week. I’ve also realized that my perennials are mostly purple 🤷🏽‍♀️…I promise that everything else I’m growing includes a more diverse color palate! A note about week numbers: week numbers are commonly used in the floriculture industry and are standardized across the years. Even though we’ve been doing #AYearInFlowers posts for a while now, this is the 24th week of the year.

By using the #week24flowers hashtag on Instagram, you can sort photos by what’s in bloom this week all around the world. In addition, week numbers allow you to compare what’s blooming in your own garden from year to year.

Early next week, I’ll be posting my week 25 flowers to social media. If you’re participating on Instagram, please add the #week25flowers and #AYearInFlowers hashtags to your caption. Be sure to also include your zone and where you’re located in the caption.
