How does your garden grow?

Written by
Floret

This last weekend, we hosted our third and final Seasonal Floral Intensive here on the farm.  We welcomed flower lovers from across the country (and even abroad) for a dreamy three-day floral design focused workshop.  One of the highlights of each workshop we host is setting the participants loose in our field to harvest to their hearts desire.  Watching them explore our flower fields, discovering new varieties and burying their heads in the blooms is always such a treat (check out all the behind the scenes beauty over on Instagram).

Seeing them in our garden reminded me that I need to check in to see how YOUR gardens are growing this summer. How’s it going? What’s been your biggest surprise?  What’s your new favorite flower this season?

A big thanks to everyone who has tagged their flowers, gardens, fields and designs with #growfloret and #floretseed.  It is such a thrill to see the beauty you are cultivating across the continent.

Here are a just a few of the many, many pretty pictures that have been posted lately.

Are you growing Floret Seeds?  If so, please share photos of your flowers in bloom and tag it with #FloretSeeds and/or #GrowFloret.  I’ll periodically feature a few submissions here on the blog and send out some Floret Seeds goody bags to those we have featured.

And congratulations to Sonia and Ashley for winning copies of the Flora Forager book via our weekend giveaway.  We’ll be in touch to get this super cute journal to you.

Happy gardening!

One day I’ll get to one of these workshops!

I am crazy about my Nimbus sweet peas (from Floret!) – they are STILL producing usable, long stems. But I got everything in the ground in a hurry, so they’re tied in with a mess of ones that are done. I think my favourite flower this year is cosmos – they aren’t necessarily my actual favourite, but there’s always a bee having a snooze, they produce endlessly, they’re beautiful. I can’t sell ’em, but I love them!

The biggest surprise for me was a dahlia I got from a woman in the neighbourhood after my dahlias from the UK arrived unusable (except one, which was the one I wanted most – yay!). She gave it to me, rather than selling it, because it was in the ground for too long. Anyway! It bloomed and it was HUGE. It’s super productive, huge blooms – it’s Spartacus! Not a bad one to get for free!

We’ve had such a fun time growing this summer. I have been surprised how much I’ve enjoyed cosmos, both double click and Versailles varieties. I love the bright colors and the foliage and how they add so much wildflowerish personality to bouquets. We are going to expand their patches next year for sure.
