A few weeks ago, we finalized the first massive shipment of dahlia tubers from the Floret Shop. It was all hands on deck to divide, label, wrap and ship out the hundreds of boxes filled with “future flowers.” It was a big effort, but it warms my heart to know that so many dahlias from our little flower farm will have new homes in gardens and flower fields across the country.

Now that we’ve tucked all 4,000 of our dahlia tubers into our fields for the season, we’re left with a small mountain of extra tubers that I’d love to share with a few flower nuts. I’ve got 10 boxes with a collection of five of my very most favorite varieties ready to go in the mail.

If you want a chance to win one of these collections, simply add a comment below. In your comment, I’d love to know your level of dahlia love. Which of the following best describes you? A) A new kid on the block just getting into gardening; B) A green thumb gardener or novice flower farmer C) Been around the block flower farmer or master gardener; D) A total, utter, unabashed plant geek with a flower collection problem; or E) fill in the blank with your own creative description of your dahlia love.

Note: I’m ready to send these suckers out, so I’m only keeping this little giveaway open for the next 24 hours. I’ll draw 10 names at the end of the day tomorrow and get them sent out right away. Also, the dahlia tubers can only be shipped to U.S. addresses.

I have a Discovery plus subscription just to watch the show. Season 1 was very powerful.It showed the amount of hard work, worry and grit needed to build Floret. Looking forward to seeing Floret thrive in season 2
In the past few years I have tried to read and watch everything you have posted. I am inspired by it. Started growing a few annuals last year. This year I am looking forward to getting some tubers from Dahlia bee choice seeds.

I have so enjoyed Season 1! I have watched it so many times.
It is my happy, calming time. I’m excited to watch Season 2. Due to an illness in the family, my life is filled with anxiety
I found that tending my dahlias brings a calming to my soul.

I’m retiring from the busy corporate world! I have over 5 acres. 2 acres are now dedicated for planting beauty in my life! My Dad raised us on fresh vegetables from his garden and it was wonderful! I’m a flower beginner and would love to be one with the earth and let it’s growing power work for me as a payoff for my 46 years of career. The idea of waking each morning to the beauty of flowers outside my windows calling me to join them is a joyous wish! Giving them all the love I have for the ultimate beauty payoff ! I am total plant geek. I spend a few minutes every day just looking at my plants and flowers and it gets my stress out. I never grew dahlias before until last year and I fell totally in love with them. I have about 6 which I am not sure if they will come back this year since I left them in the ground. I am madly in love with them . If you happen to have some tubers you would like to share, please let me know.

Is it possible to purchase a tuber or two? I’ve been a backyard Gardner since I was a small child and have about ten dahlia plants. I live in the Fresno CA area but seem to have success. If not possible to purchase could u give me a site where I could order a couple. No one around here seems to sell tubers only a growing plant from such as lowes thanks for your help. Just discovered your site fr a magazine story – you r SOO very talented and lucky to have this opportunity. CC

Oh my! I covet dahlias!
I’ve grown flowers all along, but this year I am really upping my cut flower game and you are inspirational!
I also love growing my edibles and I think I live for gardening, which is hard living in New England.
I’ve got some dahlias in the garden that have yet to poke up but I could have MORE, and love the colors you have.

Oh let’s see, I am figuring I have been vacillating between a C&D for some time, mostly constrained by space and dollars. Now the space is not an issue BUT a unfriendly environment, which I am quickly learning to master!

As our season is just getting warm enough for items to start flowering in earnest….thanks for the great burst of beauty to keep me going.

I’m E – which is somewhere between A and B. A way better florist than farmer, but working at it, getting better and learning with each new failure and success, trial and error. Having a blast with expanding the dahlia collection, thanks to all your great advice. Would love a shot at a few of your faves, which make me weak in the knees just seeing the pictures!

D. A total plant geek! I love gardening, yet this is my first year growing dahlias. I planted 14 varieties & they are just starting to emerge from the ground. I can hardly wait! My grandmother is in her 70’s and has close to 75 varieties my mother, two sisters & myself just helped her plant her dahlia field?. I can’t believe I am just trying them for the first time – I am officially hooked!

I’m a florist with a plant addiction…beginning on a plant collection! I bought a home 2 years ago and am slowly (quickly and the huband will notice my encroachments) creating beds. The veggies on the side yard. A full sun area for tomatoes and peppers. And starting to create a cutting garden this year with flowers!

We are definitely in the novice flower farmer category, and we really want to get into dahlias in a big way. Our main business is to local florists so we see dahlias and other crops that don’t ship or store well as a great area to get in to.

I have to choose E to tell you my beautiful inside and out first born daughter is Dahlia. Though the root of her name is the Norwegian Dahl, on her Dad’s side, finessing the root to Dahlia was a natural for this small flower farmer as part of a diversified farm all the way across the country in NH.

I would describe myself as B or C. I definitely have green thumb and have variety of flowers for every season and vegetables as well. Few weeks ago I added 6 more dahlia varieties to my garden. Not to mention all the extra flowers I obtained during the weekend:))) Dahlia is probably one of my most favorite flower. I would love to try your varieties.

I am a B. I started with flowers at the age of 16 and I am 36 now. I lost my mother this past year and my father is gone as well. This has made me really take a look at my life and where I want to be. I am in the medical field but my heart has always been with the dirt…land….animals. With money from my mother we have purchased some land (7 acres) that I can hopefully open my green wings and let it fly. I currently have 7 dahlia varieties in the ground. My plan is to start selling flowers, honey, and beeswax candles at a local farmers market.

My love of dahlias started in 2011 when I did a google search for the types of flowers I could grow for my July wedding. From this point forward I fell completely in love with dahlias and to my surprise, my husband did too! Although it was not easy growing our own wedding flowers in Cincinnati while finishing school in Columbus, it was a great learning experience. I am now on the road to becoming a full-time flower farmer!! I think I am a combination of B and D! I am pretty new to flower farming, but a complete plant geek who teaches Extension Master Gardener classes. I am so looking forward to the journey ahead and would love to expand my dahlia collection with some of your favorites, Erin! You are great inspiration to me and so many other flower farmers and backyard gardeners alike!!

I definitely fall in the D) category as a professional orchid grower at a public garden in Washington, DC. Growing up, my father always planted dahlias in our cut flower garden. This season, I am dedicating a quarter of my community garden plot to cut flowers including dahlias and would love to try some of your blooms!

“B) A green thumb gardener or novice flower farmer” is definitely me! Dahlias are my favourite flower because of the constant blooms that are great for cutting all summer. All dahlias are beautiful wether they are the little Pom Poms or dinner plates. I have planted my dahlias for this year which are already starting to come out and I check on them everyday to see if any new ones are coming out. Would love to have some more to add to my collection I have been adding to since I started growing dahlias 4 years ago! Take care and hope the dahlias for a wonderful, warm and caring home:)

Hey there. So, I’m an ‘A’. We bought a house last spring with a blank slate of a backyard, and my husband told me I should claim some space for a cutting garden (how great is he?). The patch is nearly ready now, and I’m psyched about the potential, but also overwhelmed to have to choose what will and won’t go in it. Was thinking that having your favs might set me down the road to finding my own, and might help me start that flower collection problem that I’ve always wanted. Ha! Thanks for the chance!

I am definitely a flower geek! I asked for my own rose bush as a birthday present when I was 8 yrs old! I am a floral designer that specializes in weddings. I love designing flowers for special events because it gives me the ability to be super creative and design something unique for each client. Wow- You are so generous! How exciting to have a (slight) chance to win some of your favorite dahalia tubers!!!!! First, let me say that I LOVE all the gorgeous flower inspiration you post on insta and second, I would say dahlias are among my very favorite flower. They remind me of my Grannie who always had a beautiful garden bursting with vibrant dahlia perfection. I’m a bit of a novice (in fact, I lost ALL my tubers last year. :( The extra sad part is that they happened to come from my Grannies garden which is now only a memory. Here’s to hoping I have better luck this year with the few new beauties I’ve tenderly placed in the ground.

Im TOTALLY a B.5, Ive tried a few things! :) I planted Dahlias last year at our old house and I absolutely loved it! Even with poor sunlight they still did Ok! THe Cafes were great! When we moved, I dug all the bulbs out because I knew theyd die (zone 4) and packed them,, and labeled them… when the time came to plant at our new place, guess if I know where they went?! Ive looked and looked and they got lost somewhere in translation and it kills me EVERY TIME I think about it! :( Would love to have a season of dahlias again! Our full sun spot awaits! Somewhere between a C and a D… my partner and I run an organic veggie farm, and we started to dabble at flowers 2 years ago. This year we’ve probably got 8 50-foot beds devoted to flowers, 2 of which are planted in dahlias. It would be lovely to add in a few more!

I would describe myself as an “A”! I have always loved flowers, but these past couple years, I’ve been studying them with my 5 year old daughter, Evie, for homeschool!! She’s in Kindergarden and I call her my Bébé florist because she can name a flower for every letter in the alphabet!! I love looking at flowers and walking through botanical gardens with her. She’s always picking wild flowers everywhere we go, making mommy and daddy adorable little bouquets! It’s her birthday on May 30th and it would be oh so so wonderful to have dahlias… I actually had “Dahlia” on my list of baby names along with “Rose,” but my daughter really wanted to name her sister Emaline, who is about 2 months old :) I came across your website today after looking through a Living magazine at the dentist while in the waiting room. I’m sooo happy I picked it up and went to your website… your family is truly an inspiration and makes me want to get into floral arranging!!! xx jena

Although I am super excited to set out “Lonely Bouquets” in my community that need to be adopted! Sadly, my Cafe Au Lait tubers have rotted in all of the rain we received over the past month. I think I may fall into both the “A” and “D” categories. My thumb may not by any means be green, or any shade thereof, but anytime I’ve tried gardening in hopes of growing a veggie or two to munch on, I end up with flats of flowers, and seedlings for sprouting petals and plants of all varieties. Something is to be said for the beauty of flowers that can’t really be found anywhere else. Keep growing and inspiring all of us!

Hi Erin! I am a “B” with a side of “E” – travelled to India for a friend’s wedding and returned totally obsessed with dahlias! MANY of my photos from my trip are of big, fluffy, beautiful dahlias. I am trying my hand at growing a few this summer on my farm in NJ so I chose the Thomas Edison varietal. Thanks for all you do!

I would have to say I am “B” B) A green thumb gardener. I used to have the most gorgeous garden and then “life” took over. I decided to take back my life and just took out the lawn (yes I am in California, so everyone thinks I am going to add a drought tolerant garden…. but I am putting everything on drip and starting my flower garden again….. while hoping for an El Nino winter!) I’m a 4th year flower farmer in the Flower City (Rochester, NY) specializing in dahlias, in fact, I already have dahlias blooming! Ha! Freakin love it!!! I’m also a fellow ASCFG member, a professional gardener, a landscape designer, a cattle rancher, and a hops farmer. I’m currently growing over 2 dozen varieties of dahlias but I desperately need pink and yellow! And I know you have them! I’m an active member of the Dahlia Society and I’m totally IN LOVE with dahlias! I am an A – just made the move from apartment to house a month ago, and have been enjoying getting my yard ready for growing. Dahlias are my favorite flower, and I’m hoping to grow as many of my own flowers for my wedding as possible, which is Sept. 2016. This summer I’m planning to do a test run, practice and hone my gardening skills. These tubers would mean so much to me, to help me realize my gardening capabilities and achieve my wedding goals.

I am an “A” with my first bunch of flowers in the ground (Peonies, Bach Buttons, Phlox, Sunflowers, Sweet Peas, zinnias and many more. Your guides are awesome. If I win the dahlias I will have to buy that guide too. I live in Utah.

I’m that girl who’s heart melts at the sight of flowers. I joked this week that my current retail therapy has been buying plants. I love the personalities they seem to portray and how they utterly can turn anyone’s day around, so a majority of what I grow is gifted out to others. What is more joy that than?! I would give the tubers a great home in Pa. I’ve already have the spots picked out for them!

Most certainly a B – just getting started with my flower farm. Willow & Mabel Garden Co. – named after my goats! Baby steps towards my dream but I’ve already been asked to provided flowers for a wedding, baby shower and graduation this summer – panic!! Breath – I can do this! I have planted 195 tubers in the past week but more are always welcome as I LOVE dahlias. Thank you as always for spreading your love & inspiration.

I would say I am a B hoping to grow into a D! I am a mommy just now looking at my once vibrant yard seeing where I need to get to work after slacking for a few years. Babies will do that you know! e) a lover of gardening, especially flowers. I grow to share! I have a full time job in sales but I share all I grow with clients. I save up used jam jars and Salsa jars all winter and am always amazed mid-summer when I have no more jars but ton of flowers left to share!! I used to grow 30 feet of sweet peas behind my garage. But picking became an hour long daily process in the spring! And powdery mildew became such an issue… And would spread to my veggie garden! I now grow only 10 feet of sweet peas, but 30 feet of freesias, and dahlias are a favorite. I started with 3 in the veggie garden between beds and was amazed at their vigor! Blooms and blooms… I love anything that gives you more the more you cut. So amazing. Now I have about 7 different varieties (and have given away many pieces if tubers to those who have expressed interest in growing their own).i would love to add more!! Know that your flowers would be shared of I was given the opportunity to grow them!! :)

I’d say I’m a B! I worked for a flower farmer in high school and college and as a grocery store floral designer for a year and a half as a newly wed. I LOVE to arrange with dahlias!!! I wanted them in my wedding flowers but couldn’t afford them. I’ve never grown them but my dream is to be a flower farmer and this year I’m getting my feet wet and throwing all the seeds I have and any plants I can aquire into a little patch in our yard. I’d say i’m halfway between B) and C), i’m in my 7th season of farming but only 3rd season of focusing on cut flowers. I LOVE Dahlias. Love love love. And I am really enjoying your blog Erin, I just came upon it recently. In fact, inspired by you, my farm partner and I have just purchased our first landscape fabric for the farm (sunbelt of course). We spent most of the day figuring out how to get the dang propane torch to work upsidedown, then how to plant in such tiny holes. Trial and Error! But worth it, our weeds are getting out of hand! So anyways, thank you for writing about what you do, we really benefit from all your experience! And we’re in Northern California, Soil Sisters Farm!

I would say I am B and D. I have plants growing everywhere around my house. I enjoy trying new varieties of plants and flowers and I am just growing my first dahlias from tubers this year. I can’t wait to have a lot of different variety of dahlias growing all around my house. They are so gorgeous and last for so long. I adore them. Until you have seen a dahlia up close and in person you don’t understand how exquisite they really are. I take pictures of mine almost everyday. G) Dahlias have Grown on me. I have a backyard garden; 16′ by 8′ but pie-shaped, like a quarter-pie. I’ve been gardening for 11 years. The first few years, it was tomatoes and cauliflower and nasturtiums and beans and arugula. The kids put corn and carrots in there, and watermelon, and an artichoke (which didn’t grow at all because we’re outside of Chicago). My mom calls it “guerilla gardening,” because you just throw stuff in there and see what sticks. Well, about year 6, I got two dahlia tubers at the garden store. Wow! Kelvin Floodlight was one; can’t remember the other. Ever since then, dahlias have slowly taken over more and more of the garden. I figured out how to overwinter the tubers in a mini-fridge in my basement. This year, my little garden will be 100% dahlias, and I have just enough room to squeeze five more in.

I’m right in the middle of B and C with some D thrown in there. I’ve been farming vegetables and flowers for the past 5 years, and am jumping fully into flowers this season. One of the first farms I ever worked on had a huge dahlia patch, and dahlias were my main flower assignment. I love the way they open, and the amazing shimmer of color from all the different varieties as the morning wakes up. Excited to grow my own patch this year, and continue to expand it in years to come.

As a floral designer & gardener I am totally obsessed with flowers…and dahlias are my latest love! My Cafe Au Lait dahlias are just starting to bloom and I would adore having more dahlias that would bloom in the summer… I just love being able to use flowers from my garden in my flower arrangements!!! I just got back from the plant nursery where I took about 10 photos of the spectacular huge dahlia plants in full bloom…I wish I could have bought them all…but at least I have the photos of the stunning flowers! E for sure. I’m an organic vegetable farmer who barely has time to plant all planned veggies but somehow has flowers on the brain and can’t stop dreaming about them! Dahlias are on my top 3 favorite flowers and the peach colored ones just make my day. I grew them last year with minimal care and managed to get a few blooms. This year, even when I know I’ll barely have time to do it, I’m taking care of my tubers and will make it a point to arrange flowers. It’ll be like a mental break from farming produce!

I am ‘D’! Completely obsessed with flowers. When I close my eyes I see blooms in every color, walk in dahlia forests that reach the sky, picnic under mammoth sunflowers, I’m taken away by the nostalgic scent of lilacs and wisteria. I open my eyes and it’s all there. Lilac and wisteria outside my kitchen window, sunflowers just coming up in the back garden, columbine everywhere, roses beginning to bloom, planters of petunias on the porch, azaleas line the walk way, Oriental poppies wave their tissue paper petals in the breeze…and the dahlia bed. Soil is prepared, turned, stakes are in place and this morning I planted my tubers! You see, I’ve always dreamed of being a flower farmer. Fields and fields of blooms, seedlings filling the greenhouse and a John Deere tractor! For now, I am grateful for the space I have…and for your flower farming journal! Thank you so much for sharing!

I used to think Dahlia’s were an old lady flower. They have been growing on my family’s farm (originally built by my great-grandmother in 1906, now owned by my uncle) for as long as I can remember and I use to associated them with my great aunt, who was always old. Now they make the backdrop for late summer weddings. My aunt grows nothing but the oldest, the rarest and the best. They are centerpieces and bouquets and they are lovely. This is where I learned to garden. And this is home.

I would say that I’m a mix, so I am going with option E. I worked in a florist when I was younger and loved it, but due to my parents wanting a more “realistic” career idea for me, I worked in corporate America till this past January. I burnt myself out and only had been doing it ten years.
In March, I found a job at a greenhouse, and that’s when I realized how much I loved and missed it. I’ve been heaven the past few months. Every day we ship out plants, and I always have to snip the dahlias due to packing, so naturally my house is filled with cut dahlias. Right now, I have a bunch of them with heurecha

I’m new to dahlias last year being the first year I bought lots of tubers from a dahlia supplier rather than from Walmart. I loved them and hopefully they survived the winter in our basement so I can replant them as well as the thirty more I purchased this spring. My husband and are going into our second year of official flower farming but both of us lots plants and flowers. We spent our five year anniversary last week planting our flower beds and this Friday my birthday I’ll be in the garden (like I have been since sixth grade) planting my dahlias. We can’t wait for them to bloom not only for our customers bouquets but for our house too!

I am a B, quickly on my way to becoming a D. My husband and I are at garden centers and nurseries at least once a week picking up new goodies for the garden and we frequently joke about how this could become quite a problem. =) I’m just glad he lets me have a bit of a ‘flower fund’ in the budget so I can play! I’ve got a smaller space just now, but am devouring the flower farming books, all your past blog posts, and articles from other floral heroes, taking lots and lots of notes from all these resources & moving toward looking for land to rent to start my own little microfarm. We’ve dreamed for a long time of having a small organic farm and growing our own food anyway, so my flower obsession fits right into the idea of a kitchen garden to grow our food and having a “cash crop” of some kind (flowers!!). I’m so excited to see where this takes us…we’re big dreamers, but taking steps toward making this one happen! I recently started a design business in Fredericksburg, Virginia, afer attending Jennie Love’s “Business of Local Flowers” class with Ellen Frost. I buy dahlias from Wollam Gardens, about an hour from my home. When it comes to dahlias, I am an A. I have actually never grown any but would love to try. My yard is filled with all kinds of other flowers though. I have an unhealthy obsession with hydrangeas. As my 10-year-old sons says, I have way too many flowers! :-)

Total new kid. Never grew flowers before the last two years, after a lifetime of tomato and onion and herb gardening, and one day something just clicked and I was like, RIGHT, FLOWERS! I love dahlias, and they’ve always seemed too challenging for me to start with? But reading your blog has shown me that I am wrong. I’m ready.

I was just looking at dahlia websites this morning wondering if it would be too late to order a few. I am an experience vegetable market grower, but I dream of flowers instead. Starting this year with a few easy ones that work in Kansas heat and wind. Have already been selling wildflower and poppy bouquets. Dahlias would certainly be a ‘step up’ for me.

I love dahlias and have been trying to nurture that love within the challenging climate of Montana. I have been saving the tubers and re-planting them–the Cafe au Lait did awesome last year and really was one of the workhorses of the flower farm last year. Also the deer didn’t eat them. I am experimenting with varieties that have shorter days to maturity which is essential in our climate. Thanks for the opportunity Erin!

I am A) a beginner. But my level of dahlia love is off the charts, they were blooming when my baby daughter was stillborn and remind me so much of her! I even have a pink dahlia tattoo. Definitely the best flower ever!

Each year, we grow about 40 flats of annuals plus an untold number of perennials. Our garden was featured in “Dream Cottage Gardens” in 2009. Last year, with your website as an inspiration, we tried several dahlias. They were outstanding!! We were able to overwinter the tubers and have added several more. Thanks for the inspiration!!

I am the new kid on the block! I have always dreamed of having a beautiful flower garden and it’s slowly taking shape! My mom and Grandma always had beauties in their gardens. I recently dug up all of my Grandmas old peonies in hopes to save them from her abandoned yard. I think they are over 40 years old! So in a addition to my small collection of peonies and my 6 dahlia tubers going into the ground today I would !!LOVE!! to add some of your swoon worthy flowers to my garden!!!

Oh my, I guess I fall into the “C” category. I’ve been an avid gardener & garden writer for years, but a first year flower farmer. I’m crossing my fingers for a win! After all of our planning and planting…we just lost our lease here on a gorgeous 5 acres.

We’re devastated, but can’t find it in our hearts to put a halt to our flower farm here in Northern California. So we are digging up the dahlias we’ve planted this year and putting them into pots and moving all of them with us. To be able to add your wonderful dahlias to our first year collection would be amazing!

B! I worked for a magical farm for a few years where I totally caught the flower bug, especially for dahlias! I just started my own flower/veggie operation with my partner last year and have sooo much to learn about flower growing, but am trying to fit in as much color and variety as possible! I started some of my dahlia tubers early in the greenhouse this year to try to have blooms earlier for a wedding this summer; they’ve been transplanted out and have buds on them now and I’m so excited! The rest are just popping out of the ground and there’s still a bit of room at the end of the bed for a few more tubers!

I would be a hybrid of A, B and D. This is my 3rd year gardening and being a flower farmer, there’s tons and tons for me to learn, this year so far the challenge is how to grow all my plants well with limited energy and resources, the lesson I received was: take better care of the seedlings. This is also my 1st year growing dahlias, all 13 tubers are in early stages of growth in pots, I can’t wait to plant them in the ground and watch them bloom!! Definitely a flower maniac here…LOL I’ve had people tell me that they thought it cruel to deprive the plants of their flowers, but they don’t know all the reasons that exist out there for folks to appreciate being able to buy fresh cut flowers: they don’t have a garden, they suck at gardening, their garden failed this season, they are no longer physically fit to garden, they want to surprise a birthday person impromptu, they want to bring beauty and colors to a sick friend, they want to have a certain flower in a loved one’s memory…I love all my plants and appreciate them even though I grow them just for cutting, and like Erin and all flower farmers around the world, I have to pull a lot of the plants to make way for the next batch of plants, but the love that was created between the people and the plants doesn’t disappear or die, it’s always there for us to access, just like our connections with a person or animal that’s no longer with us. I would love to continue to create this love and intimate connection with my gardens while I stumble along my gardening/bouquet selling path. Cheers to every one out there trying to achieve the same goal~~~

I’m told I should’ve been named Dahlia instead of Iris. What other flower just keeps pumping blooms out all summer long like a dahlia? The more you cut the more you get. So far this year I have around 120 planted! In my seedling bed there are over 150 new ones. I’m hoping for at least 1 or 2 keepers. Always room for a few more. Oh, yea! Got to start saving more dish and shower water. We are in a drought….

Have just recently come down with flower fever, hard. My boyfriend has a young farm that’s growing by the minute, and I can’t help but be inspired by it all. We’re both young, still trying to chart our paths, and I’ve got a feeling about flower farming… It could be it for me. I’m starting small and experimenting for the time being. The hardest part is waiting for planting seasons – I want it all and I want it now! I can’t wait for my dahlia tubers to start blooming! I would be simply ‘dahliaghted’ to showcase some of your enchanted blooms in my humble, yet special garden. You see, each of my planted flower friends has a history and a story to tell. I’d like to think that I’m an avid gardener but in fact I am a huge gardener wanna be. Yes I do weed, plant, dream and aspire but my yard looks nothing like I know it could. I inherited the love of gardening from my grandmothers who always had floral explosions in their yard I swear from April until October. While one prided herself with her roses, the other her sweet peas, dahlias however were their common ground. The would swap tubers in the spring as they got ready to plant their dahlia rows. I would love to win some tubers from Floret! Deer love to nibble on just about everything in my yard except for dahlias.

My love of Dahlias has amplified since buying a home last year because they’re one of the only things the pack of deer that hang out on our property don’t devour! Too Funny. Four days ago I planted the Cafe au Lait Dahlias I bought from Floret. Checked on the “babies” an hour ago and posted my labeled (I’m such a nerd) dahlia that had popped through the soil on Instagram and tagged Floret. When I saw the email my first thought was you were asking me to take down my post.
YES, I am a flower geek extraordinaire, who just tilled up part of her yard for a small cut flower garden, am a landscape designer who should be working on clients’ projects now but am drawn to these dang flowers like they are a drug! Yes, I would love more dahlias and would be very grateful for them.

Would especially love another try with dahlias as our first year we left them in the ground & they rotted – all 40 varieties gone! Second year we dug them up & they rotted in the barn :( We were too bummed out to buy more this year, but truth be told, I’d like to think our third try would be a charm!

I am definitely an addicted plant geek – cool salad greens, medicinal herbs, wild succulents, cutting flowers all make me giddy. I just caught the dahlia “bug” last year when I bought tubers from a flower grower who was retiring and moving to town. As of yesterday, I have 140 dahlias in the ground with a few labeled varieties and the majority will be a big surprise when they bloom!

E. An acomplished veggie grower that wants to try new flowers on the community garden plot. Growing our own veg was the only way to induce our three year old to eat carrots and peas. Sitting in the dirt picking strawberries is just so much beter than store Bought! I am hoping growing dahlias will make the plot even more popular and inspire other gardeners to mix flowers and Veg.

Oh, my! Dahlias are my all-time favorite flower! My parents got into them when I was a kid, probably in part to the woman ate end of our street in Marysville who grew them in her yard for show, protective umbrellas and all. My dad’s favorite was Wild Man! (My parents didn’t get that involved, though.) I drool over the catalogs, keeps them in my house in late summer (my mother-in-law grows them to sell as cut flowers for her little honor system roadside booth in East Lewis County). Best of all, I specifically planned my September wedding to ensure I could have dahlias, more dahlias and nothing but dahlias as my flowers! I had them in my bouquet, for corsages and boutonnières, and in my hair! My favorite forms are water lily and Pom Pom. I would love a collection for my home!

Dahlias are pure gorgeousness. There are so many varieties, it is enchanting to watch them grow! My wedding flowers were dahlias – just dahlias. All different kinds and colors. It made for such a vibrant, beautiful day. I am definitely in the A. Category of gardener but my husband is more of a B. And my mother in law is a C. So I’ve got lots of back-up. First year flower farmer filled with unabashed hope for and gratitude towards what grows. I started many tubers inside this winter and only three of them made it to healthy transplant outdoors this season. I am tight on finances and just writing down my winter eagerness as a loss this year and scrawling what to do better next year. Dahlias are a longtime favorite, their grace and elegance, perfectly shaped petals like no other. I am a flower farmer, first and foremost, to spread joy. E: As in, I’m the kind of person who thinks flowers make the world a much beautiful place, so therefore they exist everywhere in my life. But Dahlias are very special to me because last summer I saw them for the first time in their natural setting (not wrapped up) when my boyfriend jumped out of the car to buy some for me from a roadside stand. Tres romantique! Needless to say he is now my fiancé and that gesture represents how he is towards me in all our endeavors. I’m also happy to say he didn’t balk when I suggested we name our first child Dahlia because, well, life is much more beautiful with flowers in it. Thank you for your work Erin! Oh please pick me!! I majored in Floriculture Production in college a million years ago, basically worked as a educated hoe-er in fields and fields…Now that I am older, I have dreamed and dreamed of having massive cutting gardens, and Dahlias are my absolute favorites. I fit into B) as a novice flower farmer. However, I’ve had a love affair with Dahlia’s since the time my husband would bring me a bouquets of them from a “honor system” stand along side the road almost 20 years ago. But I have been growing dahlia’s every since my son, who was in kindergarten gave me a straggly little dahlia plant that we had no idea the color of. I was delighted when it bloomed to be my favorite color PURPLE! After my son passed away I kept growing to keep his beloved memory alive. So last summer I decided to see if I could make a go of it as a flower farm. I had a late start but man on man giving that first bouquet after bouquet to very happy customers filled me with so much joy I thought I’d burst from happiness. Lets just say Dahlia’s fill that sad space inside me I never thought would be filled again AND at the same time keeps my son’s memory going and going. ~HUGS TO ALL♥

I’m definitely a “D!” I’m a plant nerd extraordinaire! I haul, along with my husband and children’s help, hundreds of tropicals in and out of my house in the cold Minnesota tundra every year. Dahlias are definitely a passion of mine. Between myself and my neighbor (twenty-thirty years experience growing dahlias) there are a couple thousand Dahlia blooms on our street. This year I’m going to be taking cut flower bouquets to a local shop. I would love to win some of your tubers!

Hello there, I would have to say I am a combination of A, B, D and E. E for the “city slicker” that my hubby and I have been called. Moved to the country this spring and putting in a large cutting garden now, before we even have any landscape around our home. I am so in love with flowers and gardening that our previous home’s yard just couldn’t keep up with me. This my husband agreed to move to the country. He said, “If we are ever going to do it, better do it while I can still move around.” Proud to be a “City Slicker” and embarking on this new phase in our lives. Watch out flowers, here I come!

Dahlias have always scared me a little – special care, do I need to dig up and winter over, do I have the right place, will I have to read to them on summer nights with only the light from fireflies to make sure they bloom and are happy? This level of care has made me shy away as my garden mentality is quite Darwinian (survival of the fittest). However, I am filled jealous envy when I see them blooming in neighborhood gardens and featured in stunning fall bridal bouquets. So, is this the year of the dahlia for the Beaumont House garden? I think I may be ready to commit to some serious dahlia love.

I am a combo B/D. My father owned a garden center for my entire life up until I graduated high school, so majority of my time was spent there as a kid playing with plants. I have always loved plants, especially flowers. Dahlias are hands down my favorite flower, I love the variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Being an artist, I love drawing flowers and constantly look to them for inspiration. I have a lot of dahlia drawings, as well as one tattooed on my leg. I have always done great growing vegetables, but now that I have a house, I am dabbling in flowers as well. I would be beyond thrilled to give some of your beautiful tubers a happy home!! I fall into A. Don’t get me wrong- I am a flower obsessed nut, but I’m just starting to learn from my mistakes. After years of apartment living, (My tiny balcony always had some flowers on it, and always had dahlia’s!!) we just moved into a house a year ago! Even though I’m not really experienced- you have inspired me to plant my first ‘cut’ flower garden next year! I will only have a few square feet to work with- but there will be Dahlias! (did I mention Dahlias are my favorite flower!!) thank you for the constant imspiration- as a floral designer working in a typical floral shop- the inspiration is much needed and appreciated!!

I’m probably a “B” when it comes to dahlias: I’ve been growing them for a few years but try as I might, I haven’t had success in storing the tubers through the winter. I kept them in ventilated plastic crates (left over from a flower bulbs shipment) in our unheated mudroom but they shrivel up and dry out. So frustrating. I’ll continue to try (maybe putting them in sawdust next time, in paper bags in the basement?) but it’s pretty frustrating because it just seems like it shouldn’t be hard to do.

As it best suits me, option “A” defines how little I really know about gardening, but how eager I am to dive right in. Anytime I buy a new seed pack or plant that’s only just started, I search the internet for all necessary information to successful raise them and then catalog what I know. I’ve never owned a home with space for a garden, but my apartment porch denies the space for walking because of the amount of potted flowers I have. To say that I love flowers is an understatement. When I grow from seed, the plant feels like an irreplaceable treasure that I have the honor of growing to admire. Flowers are amazing, bursting representations of growth and discovery within myself as a beginner gardener and the process to grow and care for them is extremely addicting. I currently have three varieties of dahlia growing and to look at them everyday offers me a feeling of satisfaction and lasting happiness. It utterly blows my mind the amount of petals that burst to reveal the disc of pollen that allows the layered softness to radiate and build. Dahlias are special because they are a slow surprise only showing more and more layers until the final burst arrives; then you’re left with a rounded beauty of color that keeps on giving. I would be enthralled to own your favorite varieties as I love both dahlias and flower farm. I dream about working somewhere like this and being apart of the epic harvests that you post on Instagram and this blog. I do greatly hope that I could have the honors of planting these beauties as it would feel like a reward for simply loving and having a passion to have a hand in the growth of beauty.

I am for sure a B!

My love for dahlias starts with my grandpa and my momma. My grandpa has had a dahlia garden in his yard for the last 40 years. My mom would take us there as kids and harvest them every season. Now that my grandpa is too fragile to tend to the dahlias himself, my mom and I visit him once a week and weed the garden and such. His bulbs have been passed down to my mom and now to me, so dahlias in particular are so special to me. I think my family’s love for flowers is what made me a florist, today!!

After some years of hard work I would finally put myself into the B category. My love for flowers and a dream to have my own flourishing garden has driven me to try year after year to create my own oasis in our small backyard. It’s been hard work and for a long time I thought I just wasn’t cut out for it, but things are finally blooming with ease and I couldn’t be happier! On the Dahlia front…when my husband and I bought our first house five years ago the yards were over grown with random shrubs and there was nothing we liked about it. However a month or so after we moved in we got a beautiful surprise, a front yard full of dahlias and ranunculus! Apparently the little old lady who had lived here was known for her summer blooms. All of our neighbors raved about what a beautiful treat they were every year. Right now I’m trying to find out from old photos which variety they were so I can continue her tradition. In the mean time my fingers are crossed for a box of your beauties.

I have dreamed many years of beginning a cut flower garden and this year I have taken the plunge! I don’t know exactly what I am doing most of the time and the concept of succession planting makes my brain smoke, however I figure I will never learn if I don’t try! Dahlia’s are at the top of my “favorites” list.
Last winter the Nampa gardening community said goodbye to a great man, Dale Anderson. Dale and his wife Shelia spearheaded a community garden project that has fed thousands over the years and we have been fortunate to participate and learn how to grow a garden from Dale as a result!
Dale loved Dahlias, he had grown them for decades and was passionate about their cultivation. He earned many “Best of Show” awards at fairs and botanical garden competitions.
My desire is to create a beautiful dahlia garden in honor of Dale Anderson and his service to our community. I have seven varieties started which include Floret’s Cafe au Lait and any additions will be warmly welcomed!

Hi Erin and Floret! This is my second year of having my own garden–I grew up in a big family with parents who believed in the beauty of a garden, both for flowers and for vegetables, and passed that love on down to me. I’ve absorbed a lot of knowledge through the years from them, particularly my Dad, but am definitely still learning as I go (I sometimes think the learning as I go will never end…everything grows when you garden, I guess!). I was the first in my family to plant dahlias last year, after I found tubers from Old House Dahlias in Portland at one of our local farmer’s markets, and have been hooked since! This year I bought some of your Cafe au Lait dahlias, and gave half the batch to my Mom for Mother’s Day, and now she’s excited about them too! Anyway, all this to say, I would love to experiment with more of your flowers–they are so beautiful!

I’m a Southeastern D driven by foliage texture and color ’cause, you know, it’s hot a blazes down here and flowers get ratty fast. I second guessed myself this year and decided against Dahlia because everyone said they can’t be grown well here. I’d live to prove ’em wrong but all the good mail order sources are sold out. Today is my wonderful Grandmother’s 98th birthday. She is definitely a total, utter, unabashed plant geek with a flower collection problem—even if she can’t bend down to admire the creases and patterns in the leaves of the flowers. I would consider myself a complete amateur when it comes to flowers. Although, I have just discovered the amazing world of companion planting in my organic vegetable garden. I would love to have some dahlia tubers to plant in honor of my amazing Grandmother who has taught me so much. (Like drinking wine out of a coffee cup because “it’s safe” and “everyone deserves love and kindness.”) I’d love to watch these dahlia’s grow and serve as a reminder of my Grammy B who is the best person I know—and will ever know. I also love that most gardeners are generous in sharing knowledge, etc. I give back by volunteering as a master gardener and I especially love teaching kids to grow things. I carved out a bed for dahlias for the first time this year, and I was sad to miss out on your sold out collections. I found solace in a few of Floret’s Cafe Au Laits though! There is little in life more lovely than the face on the darling dahlia. I owe my life long love of flowers to my great grandmother, and a most inspiring neighbor I had as a child. I started my first flower garden at age 11, in the shape of a paisley’s (in the back of my fathers perfectly groomed yard). Now 28 years later I still stand in awe daily, utterly enchanted with every bud and blossom. I’m currently planting an heirloom garden with starts, tubers and seeds from people I love, and moments of inspiration and relevance… and this weekend is my wedding anniversar!! Every tuber is a treasure, to plant yours would be a pleasure!!

I am a combination B and D. Bought sunrise collection, which is planted. Got a white dahlia from Floret last year, which was my most productive dahlia. Tried to divide and overwinter, which failed. Was thrilled to find that I left a piece of tuber behind which has overwintered and is looking marvelous! Hope to add more Floret dahlias to my garden. I’m a dahlia obsessed dreamer trying to nurse my first bed of dahlias into life for Fall. I just left my life of flowering and designing in Northern California behind and am striking out in my native East Coast farmland with only a wish and a prayer. It was expensive moving back East! So I’m going for broke this year as I’ve put all my extra cash into flowers this Spring with the hopes of bringing dahlias to everyone from the Carolinas to the New York Islands. I’m just starting out and would positively LOVE to win some of your dahlias!!! I’m in beautiful Chester County, PA. We have a small plot that we built just for dahlias this year. I have 19 varieties that I’ve started indoors (heat mats, checking soil, fretting over if they were rotting). But 18 have made it to the outdoors and are growing! This is our first year growing flowers, and I already have a dahlia problem. I’ve started two new garden beds just for them and some are already knee hight. The most exciting thing? They multiply!!! Now we wait. It’s like waiting for the birth of a child. Anticipation, longing and nervousness all wrapped into one.

I definitely have a flower collection problem….but there is always room for more! I’m a small lavender grower, and have recently added dahlias, and other garden flowers to extend my season. I try to have my dahlia tubers in the ground by Memorial Day-since it is early this year, I have another whole week to keep on planting. I’d love to add some of your favorites to my collection! I am B. I have 29 dahlia plants in the ground this year and have room for a couple more :) I am planning on providing flowers for the restaurant my fiance works at and more dahlias would definitely help with that!

I am definitely A) A new kid on the block just getting into gardening, but I went on a journey this past year to find my favorite flower and I found that dahlias are the winner. :) I just married my high school sweetheart, finished physical therapy school, and now I finally have time to put love into my yard/landscaping/garden! I would so appreciate these flowers and would cherish them deeply!

Oh just like dahlias, I don’t know which one to pick! I’m a mixture of A, B, and D.. I’m a fairly new flower farmer, but certainly a quick study, and now mildly obsessed. I think I would consider myself having an obssessive compulsive ? flower addiction. I grow alot of types of flowers but when it comes to Dahlias, oh my I’ve only had the opportunity to grow one kind of dahlia. Thats the one that they sell in-store only. I’m a new gardener, daughter of a woman who has moved her plants with her across the country and who sends me snapchats of her garden’s progress; this fall I’m getting married to someone who loves to spend a day with her hands in the dirt. We’re planning a November wedding with dahlias galore. Big full dahlias are my favorite flowers, they’re so strong and bold. My sweetie bought me dahlias while we were falling in love and now we’re planting them in our own little garden. We have a few already, but having some from the Floret Farm would be so special!! xo

I love, love, love dahlias! I don’t have a favorite but tend to be drawn to pom poms. It doesn’t matter the color, they are all amazing! My most favorite is a stunning white that I got at a yard sale from a group of gardening nuns. Their convent was moving and they were lovingly selling all their tubers. I garden in Edmonds, WA and think I’m an E) mostly self-taught, gardening for 35 years, love adding new plants to my collection. Man oh man those dahlias are gorgeous. I’m most definitely an A whereas my mother is a B. She’s spent many years planting flowers in our backyard and turning it into what I would call our secret garden. She’s got the green thumb and at times I think she just says bippity boppity boop! And voila the garden grows. I would love to win one of the collections and gift to my mother so we can together share a lovely afternoon and cherish that time spent together.

I like to pronounce them as Dahhhlias, in a sort of Catherine Hepbern manner… As a novice gardener of 30 who has some accumulated knowledge gleaned my garden savvy papa, I would say I am a solidly between an A and B(A+?) with a dash of C and a healthy smattering of D. I am a Musician, Artist and Nanny who reads cookbooks and has her hands in the soil in scant minutes throughout the day. Just about to play with the irisesactually! can’t wait to venture into dahhhhlia territory!

I just get all swoony for dahlias!! I had them at my wedding. I wore a large floral crown of deep red and carried a huge bouquet of white. I don’t have space for a garden at my apartment but I always have fresh flowers inside. My mom has a pretty little garden she has been tending to for a year now and dahlias would be a beautiful addition. My grandmother had an enormous backyard garden she would be in daily. I have so many beautiful memories of her out in her garden. She would always complain what the sun was doing to her hands but wouldn’t wear gloves!

I always try to have some fresh cut flowers in the house. I put them in a vase on the kitchen table and look at my 3 years old little girl picking through them, smelling them. They always make her smile.
My favorite flowers are Dahlias. My mother was always proud of her garden. Her flowers were amazing, a specialty dahlias. I remember when she used to put them in a vase and bring them home. I sat at the kitchen table for hours looking at the fireworks of colors. They filled the room with warmth and happiness.
To this day looking at dahlias brings me home.
I hope it will do the same for my little girl one day.

I believe dahlias are my soulmate. Ever since I saw my first dahlia it is the flower that always inspires me get up and out into the garden no matter how over whelmed I might be with work or weeds. Giving someone a bouquet with dahlias has been a great way to share that inspiration and energy.

I’m somewhere between an A, B and E. Personally, I’ve only just begun to dive in to planting and nurturing flowers in my moms garden, but I’ve enough years of experience by proxy from watching her that I’m beginning to move in to B territory. But there’s a little bit of E in me, which is “newly discovering my desire to be surrounded by all things dahlia even if my mom can’t garden as much anymore.” I would love to surprise her with some gorgeous new dahlias!

I’m definitely (D)a total, utter, unabashed plant geek with a flower collection (and seed packet hoarding) problem- and I’m very proud to say that I’m turning my husband over to the green side :) He wants to know all the varieties and characteristics of everything we’re planting this year so that when anyone stops by for a visit he’ll be able to share his plant love and knowledge. I admit it: I am a plant geek!! Today the Evening Primrose bloomed.. I carried it down here when we moved, and originally it was from my Mothers fared many, many years ago . She loved them, so they are special to me. And then, I have dark red Dahlias that came from my Grandmother to Mother to me. It’s a family thing!

Option Z: I am OBSESSED with dahlias!! I go to the local dahlia mans stand every 5 days when they are in season. For my September wedding (11) years ago he allowed me and my florist to come pick as many flowers as we wanted for $150. We picked over 2,000!! My florist had large dahlia “kissing balls” hanging down the aisles and up front on shepherds hooks. It was so beautiful!! I love them!! ?

I’m a fairly seasoned gardener that has just recently fallen head first in love with the flower world. A world that I have a lot to learn about. When I’m not in the garden my nose is in a flower book, or probably your blog finding all the info that I can. I just planted all of my dahlias a couple of weeks ago. Now it won’t stop raining! Sheesh. Hopefully this is not a hard lesson.

E, I guess. I am a backyard gardener with a steadily-shrinking lawn so that I can fit more flowers in! Dahlias become very earwig-infested in my garden and I’m opposed to pesticides, so I grow them down at my dad’s place and they are BEAUTIFUL there. He just had a heart procedure and needs me to plant some new varieties of dahlias to cheer him up. :)

bahhh!! I would say I am both B) A green thumb gardener or novice flower farmer and D) A total, utter, unabashed plant geek with a flower collection problem, with a heavy emphasis on flower collection problem. By far my favorite thing to put in the ground were your tubers, and I would love to add to my Floret collection. I blasted hip-hop, mostly Drake, while I was planting them…”started from the bottom now we’re here…” I was thinking maybe Claude Debussy, but remembered how you told the workshop about blaring gangsta rap on the boombox. And let me tell you, I got those babies in the ground fast, nothing like some music to get you moving and grooving. So, not only am I trying to grow dahlias in the hot and humid southeast, but we had crazy amounts of rainfall last week, and I am worried about some tubers rotting. I was that crazy cat lady (read:flower nut) running through a thunderstorm to cover the dahlia beds with black tarps. I would love to have some tubers on back up in case my worst nightmare happens. And yes, I have nightmares about short stem length or tornadoes taking out my fields. Also, I might cry when I see Bracken Rose bloom. Sending everyone at Floret big love!

OHH- I love dahlias!! And honestly despite my life long love affair with flowers, including a floral designer, dried flower farm, wreath maker, painter and now gallerist- I have yet to really have a chance to embrace that beautiful flower in my garden. I don’t even know why?? Well, I live just up the road from Swan Island Dahlias, so ….. you know.

I started growing dahlias in 2001, when my town started its community garden program at what had been an old dairy farm. Open space, all sun all the time. I was one of the first to put in dahlias that year, and I’ve grown them ever since. What generous beauties.

I’m a B/D combination. With a vast barn lot that I have been mowing for years I have now envisioned all the flowers I have wanted to grow! Now is the time. MY time to grow grow grow is here. I have access to my husband’s grandmother’s flowers. It’s time to move those starts back home where they began. I must say that the dahlias are fast becoming my all time favorite. I think I’m an E. Gardening most of my life, veggie and flowers, now just flowers. Took the master gardener class but still so much to learn I don’t feel qualified to claim the title. Dahlias have become a fascinating flower for me recently with having grown a few. Was scouting the garden centers last week in search of some to plant. So far none have made it home with me.

Greetings! I’m 38 and have been flowering on since 1999. I completed the Master Gardener program in 2004 and have always had small home gardens. Last year my husband and I bought a farm, this is my first year actually growing to sell locally at Farmers Market. I’m completely intimidated but super stoked about the upcoming season. I’m trying my hand at growing for my flower clients this year! I’m kind of a combination of a complete and total newbie with the heart of a seasoned vet plant/flower collector. I’m very lucky to have the guidance of my Master Gardener mother-in-law, and can’t wait to see how things go and grow this year! Dahlias are, hands down, my most favorite flower (peonies, who?) and I cannot wait until I can walk out into my backyard for my fix!!

I’d say “B” probably fits me the best. Gardening is my joy, peace, way of spreading goodness. It gives me much to share with friends, family, and passersby. Dahlias are a big feature of my garden and I love how they take us all the way from summer to the freezing weather with spectacular blooms. They have rapidly become one of my favorite flowers and this was the first year I had enough to divide and give away… it makes me so happy that five friends have some in their gardens this year. I would just love to try a few new kinds and the peachy/russet/dusky sherbet colors you grow are some of my favorite hues. Thanks so much for all of your garden inspiration and the wisdom you freely share. I’ve loved your recent series of posts in particular.

We bought a house from a 90-year old woman who was a serious plant collector and we are just trying to take it all in and learn… sadly… no dahlias in her collection. Would LOVE some of your amazing stock :) Cheers!

So generous and exciting!!!

I am a novice flower farmer that is quickly running out of space and begging the husband to tear up more of my yard. I just put in 5 dahlia tubers and am looking forward to those. Last year, I grew them in deep pink (see? Still too new to remember what they were called!) with good results.

Good gracious, those are such gorgeous flowers. My dahlia love goes back to childhood when the task of potting new flowers with my Mom on the porch was seen as a mere task to get through before running down to the creek. Now, as an adult, I love flowers, but grasp only the rudimentary elements of keeping them alive: don’t overwater, make sure the soil has good drainage, and check the planting guide to see if they need full shade or partial. We have moved a lot over the last five years, but my goal is to have a garden space within the next year that flourishes and one where I can dedicate time and energy to learning beyond the basics. Plus, I just want to be surrounded by beautiful flowers and eat food that I have grown. Beautiful giveaway!

My mother grew dahlias, and I’ve started to collect them as well, and would be so thrilled to add some of your beautiful Floret dahlias to my collection!! I fall into the “A” category! I’ve grown flowers for fun before, but this is my first season official flower farming. So far it has been one big ole learning experience, and I can’t to share our flowers with our excited flower CSA members & our market customers this season. I adore dahlias, and can’t wait to snip my first stems! Thank you so much for you ongoing work and knowledge sharing Erin! I have been planting flowers for years, and only last year did I get up the nerve to plant Dahlias! I.am.in.LOVE. I thought they were difficult to grow, but they came up beautifully. I have 4 tubers to my name, and I gently packed them away last fall to enjoy them this year. I would love to add new colors to my tiny collection! Arr! this is too amazing. I’m definitely “A.” My husband and I just purchased our first home a year ago and are slowly discovering that the black thumbs we thought we had are not actually so black, they’re starting to turn a liiiittle brown-green now that we’ve managed to get a small vegetable garden going as well as growing our own flowers (begonias, oriental lilies, hyacinths and gladiolas). Dahlias had always been around in my grandmother’s garden when I was growing up so seeing them brings over rushes of love and nostalgia. They always reminded me of sunsets with pink and orange puffs of clouds. I’d love to add some to my garden and bring those feelings back to my own home and garden now.

I am definitely “A total, utter, unabashed plant geek with a flower collection problem”!! I have a large backyard in San Jose, CA, and I have about 50 dahlia plants that are currently growing.   I’d have to say I’m an E. I like to try new things in my garden along with those I know work. I like to buy half dead plants and bring them back to life. I like to start some from seeds. I plant flowers that bloom all different times so I always have flowers. Seem to have the best luck with cut and come again zinnias. But my garden looks like an English Garden! It’s my therapy.

Oh dear, how I would love to win some of your lovely dahlias. I would say option D best describes me “A total, utter, unabashed plant geek with a serious flower obsession (i.e. pretty much constantly thinking and dreaming about gardening, flowers, and plants) and a growing flower collection problem. I would eat nothing but pancakes for a month in order to increase my plant budget, but I don’t think my husband will go for it. ;)
